영국 일간지 중에 〈가디언(Guardian)〉이 있습니다. 진보 성향을 띤 이 신문은 우리의 경우 한겨례 신문이나 경향신문과 비슷한 논조라고 보면 됩니다. 〈가디언〉은 평일 주말 모두 신문을 발간하는데, 특히 일요일판의 경우 제호는 〈옵저버(Observer)〉입니다. 같은 계열이지만 편집 데스크가 별도로 운영되고 있어요. 홈페이지도 각각 있답니다.

 

〈옵저버〉에서 2013년 9월 22일부터 2015년 9월 3일까지 영미권에서 17세기부터 현재까지 발표된 소설 중 매주 1권씩 선정, 100주간 총 100대 소설을 소개했어요. 약 2년간에 걸친 대장정인 셈이지요. 아마 1주일에 1권씩 읽으라는 뜻? 훗~
