1973년 아르헨티나에서 태어나 스웨덴에서 어린 시절을 보낸 후 미국으로 가 뉴욕대학교에서 철학 박사학위를 받았다. 2017년 소설 『먼 곳에서』를 발표하며 작가로 데뷔했다. 첫 작품으로 단숨에 미국 문단의 주목을 받으며 퓰리처상과 펜/포크너상 최종후보에 올랐고, 사로얀 국제상, 캐벌 어워드, 뉴 아메리칸 보이스 어워드 등 다수의 상을 수상했다.
