As life on the island progresses, Godfrey rescues an African man named Carefinotu from cannibals, who then joins him and Tartlet. The trio collaborates to sustain themselves, facing and overcoming various challenges. Through these trials, Godfrey attains true personal growth. Eventually, they are rescued and return to San Francisco, where Godfrey reunites with his fiancee Phina and they plan to marry.
