1976년 육군사관학교를 졸업하고(32기) 연세대학교 행정대학원에서 행정학 석사학위를 받았다. 또한 미 육군보병학교 고등군사반과 Armed forces staff college, 국방대학원 안보과정에서 군사학과 안보정책에 대한 공부를 하였다. 임관 이후 야전에서 2사단 수색대 소대장, 25사단 72연대 11중대장, 8사단 16연대 3대대장, 2사단 17연대장, 6사단장, 수도군단장 등 야전 지휘관을 역임하였고 육군본부, 한미연합사, 합동참모본부, 대통령비서실에서 작전, 전략, 국방정책에 대한 참모업무를 수행하였다. 최근에는 육군본부 정책홍보실장,17대 대통령직 인수위원회 전문위원, 육군 참모차장직을 마치고 현재는 국방대학교 겸임교수 및 합동군사대학교 명예교수로 군 인재 양성에 힘쓰고 있다.

After a proud and distinguished 42-year career serving his country as a military officer, the author encountered a midlife crisis. He took the opportunity to look back on how he had neglected his Lord and repented; for nine days, he devoted himself to prayer and communicating with God, pleading with the Lord to show him a way to use his life for Him. At the end of his prayers, he realized that his new purpose was to spread the message about the love he had received from God; this was the beginning of what was to become this book, ‘God, Who came with Humor.’
This book reflects on the doctrines of what it means to be a Catholic with a touch of humor, and is intended to make it easier to approach themes and lessons which may seem difficult at first glance. This book is highly recommended for those who are just beginning their journey of faith, as well as people who feel that they have neglected the faith for too long and wish to immerse themselves in it once again.
