The second half deepens the exploration of life under occupation as the inner struggles and choices of the characters become more pronounced while beneath the surface of apparent normality tensions and constraints intensify and the conflict between personal dignity and national identity grows stronger as even ordinary events acquire political significance and throughout the narrative irony and critique sharpen to emphasize the abnormality of the imposed order ultimately revealing a complex interplay between resignation and the enduring impulse to resist within a controlled and altered society.
