Shannon’s attempt to confront the bootleggers places her life in danger until Custer comes to her rescue, but Grace’s tragic death and the subsequent murder of Wilson Crumb draw both Custer and Shannon into a far more serious criminal investigation and trial. Custer is eventually sentenced to death, yet shortly before his execution Guy regains his memory and confesses to killing Crumb, while Slick Allen reveals that he planted evidence against Custer, finally clearing him and exposing the hidden truths behind the crimes.
