About the Issue
Founded in London in 1970 by British designer Margaret Howell, the eponymous brand began with men’s shirts before expanding into womenswear and accessories. Rooted in practicality and a restrained aesthetic, its collections offer clothes designed to be worn for years. Howell’s emphasis on quality fabrics, comfort and function is evident in the shirts made in the brand’s London workroom, as well as the trousers and jackets produced in collaboration with its long-established British manufacturing partners. In 2003, the brand introduced MHL., a casual line centred on durability and utility. By also presenting furniture and everyday household objects, it has extended its commitment to longevity and function beyond clothing.
