등에 진 소금 짐이 너무 무거운 소금장수의 당나귀가 꾀를 내어 개울에서 넘어져 소금을 모두 녹여 버린다. 화가 난 주인이 팔아버리겠다고 말하자 당나귀는 집을 나와 브레멘으로 가서 음악가가 되려고 결심한다. 떠나는 길에 강물에 비친 자기 모습에 욕심을 내서 뼈를 빠뜨린 개와 황금 알을 낳는 암탉, 나이 많은 고양이를 만나서 모두 함께 브레멘으로 떠난다. 가는 길에 우연히 지나다가 들린 집안을 살펴보다 물건을 훔치는 도둑들을 발견하고는 자신들의 아름다운 노래로 그들을 변화시킬 수 있다고 생각하지만, 도둑들은 창무네 비친 동물들의 모습과 괴성을 듣고 괴물로 오해해서 도망가게 된다. 그러나 동물들은 자신들의 노래가 도둑들에게 감동을 주었다고 믿고 이제 정말 훌륭한 음악가가 되었다고 생각하며 스스로를 자랑스러워한다. Ready, Action!에서는 원작과는 달리 동물들이 늙었다고 주인에게 버림 받는 것이 아니라, 욕심을 부려서 쫓겨나거나 도망친다. 노래를 모두 잘 한다고 생각하는 모습에서 또 다른 재미를 느낄 수 있다.

The donkey of the salt merchant decides to fall into the pond and melt all of the salt to lighten his load. When the angry master threatens to sell Donkey, he runs away from home and decides to become a musician in Bremen. On the way he meets a greedy dog who lost his bone to his image in the river, a hen who lays golden eggs, and a cat. On the way to Bremen they see two thieves in a house and decide to use music to change the thieves’ hearts. The thieves see the animals through the window and hear an awful noise. They think they see a monster and run away. However the animals believe that their music changes the hearts of the thieves and are proud that they have become musicians.

In Ready, Action! unlike the original story there are some fun moments because they believe their music is good.
