가정학과 식품영양학을 전공하고 대학에서 강의를 했다. 그 후 4년간 일본 생활을 하면서 세계 각국 요리에 관심이 깊어지기 시작해 한국으로 돌아온 후 한국 전통 양반가 음식의 대가인 강인희 교수로부터 배우고 『동의보감』 공부를 통해 약식동원음식을 이해하며 한국 음식의 매력에 빠졌다. 20여 년의 요리학원 운영과 대학 강의 외에 한식 패밀리 레스토랑 '산내들내', 한국요리와 문화연구소, 청와대 사랑채 한식 체험관으로 활동의 범위를 넓혀왔다. 이 책을 통해 딸과 한식에 관심을 가진 모든 사람에게 제대로 된 한식의 맛과 가치를 전하고자 한다.
